Once again it is time for Foteviken Viking Market. During the Viking Age was this a great summer market on Foteviken which, according to the Faroese saga was the largest in Scandinavia. Our modern-day Viking market also attracts the many Vikings. You are all cordially invited to this year's market!

Foteviken Viking Market, June 30 to July 2

Foteviken Viking Market starts traditionally with förmarknad on Thursday 30 June. The market is held on Friday until Sunday.

The Battle of Foteviken

Battle of Foteviken is an element with a long history. There are few places for vikingareenactors where there has been a kind. One is obviously Hastings in 1066 where every five years, a major hit. Another actually stood at the marketplace of Foteviken 4 June 1134. This historic fact, we want to work on together with the local Viking warrior groups who wanted to push the warrior hit the Foteviken. The basic idea is that during the Saturday / Sunday to have performances as before, but to make arrangements so that they correspond to the historical battle in which Skåne King Erik Emune down his uncle, King Niels and his son Prince Magnus and where Magnus is killed with his entire retinue.

Viking Games Open

Foteviken Museum started with Viking Games Open in 2015 in connection with the 20th anniversary and we will continue this tradition, to have an exciting race. Unlike Viking Games, a team competition as the Viking Games Open an individual competition open to both Vikings and visitors! Entrants will get set up in five different events that put precision, balance and strength to the test! On Saturday we start with the first three segments and continues with the final two competition rounds on Sunday. The competition concludes with an awards ceremony with a big prize for the winner!

Information for visiting Vikings

Arrival, parking and sleeping

We will as usual not have public parking on the museum parking lot during the market. You may only park on the museum parking lot if you live in a caravan or mobile home, are registered and have received a permit. You will receive a permit to sleep here from the market registration office when you register your arrival, which must be placed in the windscreen of your vehicle.

Everyone else must park at the the designated parking lots near the riding school (not on the private parking lot of the riding school). Signs will be placed to show the way, and a map will be available at the market registration office.

If you stay in a modern tent you may camp in the pasture to the south of the museum parking lot.

About the marketplace

An increasing number of local Vikings have their own lots inside the town wall. This means there is less room for tents for visiting vikings inside the town wall. As many of you already know there is plenty of room for Viking tents outside the wall.

There is a map showing where tents will be placed. On arrival contact Björn Jakobsen (phone +46 40 330 801) to be assigned a place to put your tent. Remember that cars may not be parked within the museum area during the night, please move your car to the designated parking lot. Cars may only enter the museum area between 8 in the morning and 10 in the evening to deliver tents and equipment. Please do not put up your tent before having been assigned a place, or you may be forced to move it.

N.B. Vikings not busy with other activities are expected to partake in the market programme activities.

The market registration office

The registration office is located in the far end of the main museum building (follow the signs). Here all preregistered Vikings must register their arrival to receive feast, food and breakfast tickets and parking permits.
